After touring jazz clubs across Belgium and Europe as a double bassist, Belgian Axel Gilain set aside his bass and returned to his first loves: singing and guitar. His 2025 album Slow Motion Scene revealed songs with voice and guitar, punctuated by sounds, thoughts, and fragments of interviews played on a cassette recorder—an imperfect, nostalgic object. A post-mortem reconstruction, or a waking dream, in which a cinematic light cuts this intimate journey into scenes bathed in silence and breath. Live, Gilain is joined by composer and multi-instrumentalist Julia Emmery, who, since 2007, has also been a multi-instrumentalist and singer with the eclectic retro-pop/folk band Belcirque and has written for ensembles such as I Solisti and Ictus.
