Julia Bünnagel is a contemporary sound and sculpting artist based in Cologne. Her live performances primarily use modified vinyl records that produce sounds unlike anything else. Using white noise, multiple musical fragments, and dirty boom beats, she turns an ordinary turntable into an unexpectedly bizarre musical instrument. Bünnagel is part of the sound art collective Sculptress of Sound and Berg Bünnagel Lautermann.
Her ALL HUMANS LOVE is a sound installation and performance created from vinyl records featuring love songs. By manipulating and painting the records, Bünnagel loops, fragments, and transforms the music and vocals, blurring gender identities and turning stereotypical declarations of love into distorted noise or absurd mutations. In her 40-minute turntablism performance, the painted records spell out “ALL HUMANS LOVE,” with typography shaping the sound. The result is a wild fusion of noise, music, and gritty beats, exploring universal themes of love through experimental sonic collage.
