Raphael Loher is a pianist and composer who works with a wide range of musical styles and in many interdisciplinary projects. Using preparations and extended techniques, he expands the sound of the piano and creates his own unique sound world. In 2022, he released his first solo album Keemuun on three:four records. Across its four pieces, Loher reduced the piano to just ten notes spanning two octaves on the keyboard. This focus on a single idea and its countless variations has since become the core of Loher’s solo work. With Baumschule, a minimalist-long-form-improvisation trio featuring Manuel Troller and Julian Sartorius, he explores these ideas in a band setting. His 2025 album, Hug of Gravity, was released on Hallow Ground. He is also a member of the post-genre band KALI Trio and frequently collaborates with artists such as Gerry Hemingway, Martina Lussi, Frantz Loriot, Linda Vogel, Silke Strahl, and Anna Pabst.
