Mike Harding will open proceedings by discussing field recordings and their role in sound art and music. He will introduce Chris Watson and other Touch artists who use field recordings in their work and how they approach using field recordings for composition. He wil also briefly discuss copyright and the practical uses of any recordings obtained in the field.
Chris Watson will follow with an introduction to his work and explore the possibilities and expectations for a field trip such as this, what challenges and opportunities there are, how to approach them and how to consider recording in the field as a part of a journey towards a composed piece of sound, with practical tips from his years of experience in working with sound for albums, radio, TV and film as well as multi-channel installations and live performances.
