“John FM comes up next on the mighty XL Recordings with his American Spirit EP. Known for his solo work on Omar S’s FXHE Records and London-based label The Trilogy Tapes, he’s also worked in collaboration with NY artist Acemo. His sound is one that creatively reinterprets the legacy of Detroit and the American mid-West in patchwork mosaics. There’s a lofi sheen in the recording of his spoken word and sung vocals, with US house influences skewed and slowed into downtempo chugs. At times it’s a kind of scuzzy take on R&B, with the autotuned ‘Forever’ addressing this most directly.” (Bleep)
