Klangwart was founded in 1996 by Markus Detmer and Timo Reuber in Cologne, two elder statesmen of neo-krautrock, or perhaps under-statesmen fits the bill more, as minimalism and understatement are key elements of the Klangwart project. Detmer founded the Staubgold label 30 years ago, and Timo Reuter is a writer who has released many solo albums on Staubgold. Every couple of years, they release an acclaimed Klangwart album, perform, and disappear again. Their 2019 album Bogotá mixed electronic music with folk, Latin, and experimental influences, an insight into their ever-changing modus operandi, a choice for continued openness, and a continued integration of sounds that prick their senses. Their new album Wildnis will be released on Staugold in 2026. Theirs is the cosmos within, a profound longing for veracious expression on the border between avant-garde and entertainment.
