From Switzerland, Marc Matter works as an artist and researcher in the field of sound and spoken language. His work has been released on labels such as Futura Resistenza, Chocolate Monk, Mount Analogue, Slim Volume, and Spoken Matter, and he has produced commissioned works for Deutschlandradio, SWR, and WDR. His live performances use pre-mediatized samples: fragments collected from radio, TV, and the internet, and can therefore be considered ’sample poetry’ – a kind of sonic poetry based on found sound material. These fragments are recombined as clusters or loops, resulting in a quasi-musical formal approach and triggering collisions of sound and meaning.
His DJ sets are mainly musical, ranging from abstract, noisy passages to more danceable
rhythms. He combines (not just) electronic music from over half a century and a wide variety of genres, allowing them to rub against each other. Marc Matter first came to prominence as part of the Institut für Feinmotorik, The Durian Brothers, the diskant label, and the Salon des Amateurs in Düsseldorf.
