Musica Mosaica focuses on composition following predefined principles and constraints, based on a strictly approximate understanding of music fundamentals such as rhythms, intervals and goofy notes. After years of playing mostly improvised music in different projects (Buffle, Humus, Saule), Brussels-based Xavier García Bardón and Emmanuel Gonay now transpose their intuitive approach into the field of writing. In their quest for flatness and perspective, they formulate rules but allow themselves to bypass them. Collecting sounds and images from various sources, applying different protocols to their destiny, they come with a deviant perspective informed by film editing and geometry. Musica Mosaica cherishes ancient Greek music and brick patterns in Belgian art, has a taste for concatenation and Sicilian pastries.
