Senegalese percussionist and Art Ensemble of Chicago member Dudù Kouate is renowned for his virtuosic command of over 200 instruments—many crafted from recycled materials—and his deep exploration of traditional sounds and elemental rhythms. Recognized as an enhancer of traditional instruments, especially percussion and idiophones, he has devised ways to incorporate them into a wide range of musical contexts. He also works in theater, cinema, dance, and poetry projects, and is a qualified cultural and museum mediator at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, the Ismu in Milan, and the Pinacoteca of Brera in Milan.
